Privacy Policy

How WeatherDom collects, uses, and protects your data.

Last updated:

Introduction

WeatherDom (“we”, “us”) provides weather forecasts for Greece based on the WRF numerical weather model. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we process when you use weatherdom.com, why we process it, and the rights you have under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

WeatherDom is the controller responsible for the personal data described here. If you have any questions, contact us at info@weatherdom.com.

Data We Collect

We keep data collection to the minimum needed to run the service. Depending on how you use WeatherDom, this may include:

  • Account data. When you create an account or sign in, our authentication provider Clerk processes your name and email address on our behalf.
  • Preferences and saved locations. Your unit, theme, and language choices and your saved (favourite) locations are stored locally in your browser, and linked to your account if you are signed in.
  • Approximate location. If you grant your browser’s location permission, we use your approximate position to centre the map and surface nearby forecasts. This happens on your device and is not stored on our servers.
  • Usage and analytics data. With your consent, we collect non-identifying analytics events — such as which pages and locations are viewed — to understand and improve how the site is used.
  • Technical data. Our servers and providers keep standard logs (such as IP address, browser type, and timestamps) needed to operate the service securely.

How We Use Your Data

We process your personal data for the following purposes and on the following legal bases under Article 6 GDPR:

  • To provide the service — showing forecasts, maps, and your saved locations (performance of a contract and our legitimate interest in operating the site).
  • To remember your preferences — units, theme, and language (our legitimate interest in a consistent experience; stored on your device).
  • To measure and improve the site — analytics (your consent, which you can withdraw at any time).
  • To keep the service secure — preventing abuse and protecting our systems (our legitimate interest).
  • To comply with the law — where we are under a legal obligation (compliance with a legal obligation).

Cookies and Analytics

Essential local storage is used to remember your preferences and your consent choice; this is required for the site to work and is not used for tracking.

For analytics we use Google Analytics 4, PostHog, and Vercel Analytics. We do not run advertising and we do not sell your data. Analytics run under Google Consent Mode v2 and are disabled by default — no analytics cookies are set until you accept in the cookie banner.

You can change your choice at any time using the Cookie settings link in the site footer. Declining keeps all three analytics tools switched off.

Sharing and Service Providers

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with service providers (processors) that help us run WeatherDom, and only as needed to deliver the service:

  • Clerk — account sign-in and authentication.
  • Google Analytics (Google), PostHog, and Vercel Analytics — privacy-conscious, consent-gated usage analytics.
  • Vercel — application hosting and delivery.
  • MapTiler — map tiles for the interactive map.

Some of these providers may process data outside the European Economic Area. Where they do, the transfer is covered by appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.

We may also disclose data where required to comply with the law or to protect our rights, users, and systems.

Data Retention

We keep personal data only for as long as needed for the purposes above:

  • Account data is kept while your account is active and is deleted when you close it.
  • Preferences and saved locations remain in your browser until you clear them or remove the account link.
  • Analytics data is retained for a limited period according to each provider’s settings and then aggregated or deleted.

Your Rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

  • access the personal data we hold about you;
  • have inaccurate data corrected;
  • have your data erased;
  • restrict or object to certain processing;
  • receive your data in a portable format; and
  • withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing already carried out.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at info@weatherdom.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Hellenic Data Protection Authority (www.dpa.gr) or your local supervisory authority.

Data Security

We apply appropriate technical and organisational measures — including encryption in transit and access controls — to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and review our measures regularly.

Children’s Privacy

WeatherDom is a general-audience weather service and is not directed to children under 15 (the age of digital consent in Greece). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under that age. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the service or the law. When we do, we will revise the “last updated” date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be communicated where appropriate.
